Too much Apple

E-mail Print PDF

Apple, Apple, Apple, lately every blog, tech news paper etc talk of Apple (or S. Jobbs). I agree that lately apple drove the innovation in the tech market, but this doesn't mean that any rumor have to generate a never-ending series of speculative articles on which may or may not be the great next Apple product.

All those (mostly fake) renders, photo and so on just make me sick. It's just like spam, on my Google reader, every two articles of tech there is one about the possibility of an "iTablet", iphone 4G, iToilet, iGirlfriend or whatever you dream most.

Why don't everyone just wait for the announcement?

Damn I've just made an apple-article myself!

Wrong turn HTC

E-mail Print PDF

I really like the interface of the HTC Hero but I want android 2.1 as OS, recently there were some shots and videos of the sense interface of android 2. I have to say that I find the new style of the sense interface ugly!

I don't like the "bubbles" around the icons and the overall "squared" style of the new interface. I hope that the final version it will be possible to select the old interface skin.

Ipod as a gaming platform?

E-mail Print PDF

Recently Steve Jobs said that the IPhone and IPod touch "are a great gaming platform". I'm sure that both products have the "horsepower" for playing 3d games, but I couldn't play an action game (or sport) of an IPod or worse on an IPhone.

Why?

Easy: "the missing controller". I'm a fan of accelerometers (and an happy Wii owner) but the IPod have no buttons, and interaction with games it's often done with button simulated on the touch screen.

During frenetic playing session it happens to press the buttons with an higher pressure that you would like, and I'm not sure that the IPod display could sustain the same amount of pressure the button of a PSP or NDS can.

So if we are speaking of ability games, puzzles, management, turn based rpgs, or other "relaxing" games, I'm sure that the ipod can provide a gaming experience even better than both the NDS and PSP, but IMHO for action based games the risk of shattering the display it's too high for really enjoying the game.

This is, of course, my personal opinion, and I do not own an IPod (but I had the chance to play with one for a while), I just wanted to point a possible weakness of the platform.

Bye

Office Live not for everyone (at least not for linux)

E-mail Print PDF

I've just noticed that there is a new Microsoft service available on the web: Office Live. and I tough that it was worth at least a look, so I tried to enter it using my MSN account and this is what I've reached ;)

Office Live not for linux

It seems that it has a many limitations to the combination of browser and O.S. it is compatible with, first under linux it just doesn't work, second no support for Opera and Chrome.

So it has a long way before being competitive with google documents, at least from my point of view ;).

This is not uncommon for Microsoft, mac user do know how the support of MSN lack from their side, but this is Microsoft way of doing.

Well I think that I continue using OpenOffice and Google docs ;)

3D may not fall flat

E-mail Print PDF

Recently I read this article that affirm that the upcoming 3D technology will fail, even tough I can agree that the different 3D standard will not favor the adoption of this tech, I think that 3D eventually will be successful.

Well this depends on the "quality" of the implementation, if 3D will feel realistic and if the content will be worth enough (gaming will be the most important element in the future of 3D) the product will succeed.

Hi definition was just and "upgrade", all people I know own an HDReady or FullHD TV (those are the only tvs available in the shops today) but no one of the own yet a blue ray, this is because they don't feel that the upgrade will give to them a value worth the price.

3D is a completely different thing, its not just a sharper image, its a new "dimension", you will be able to see the depth of a scene, games will finally look realistic (doesn't matter how high the resolution is the games are still flat!).

The price and the compatibility issue will make it start really slow (it wouldn't be possible to share the shutter glasses of different brands, so to share the experience you should have to buy a lot of shutter-glasses) but in the end content availability and a shutter-glasses standard will bring 3D and blue ray in most homes.
